Jun in the Snow
Jun was at his pal Roy's cabin. He woke up and was thrilled to see snow for the first time. The ground was white, and soft flakes fell from the sky. “Let’s go out!” Jun said.
Jun unpacked his clothing. He unzipped his jacket and took his hat out. Roy unlocked the shed and grabbed a red wooden sled. “What is that?” Jun asked.
Roy said, “It is a sled! We will sit on it and slide down the hill in the snow!”
Jun looked closely. The sled looked a bit unsafe, and he felt unfit to ride it. “What happens if I go too fast?” he asked.
Roy replied, “If you are afraid, you can stop by leaning back and lifting your toes. You can also move the sled to the right or left with the rope. Come on, it will be fun! You can watch me sled down first.”
Roy slid down the hill quickly. It was unlike anything Jun had seen before. Roy's speed was unmatched. Roy slid down, unafraid.
Now it was Jun's turn. He sat down and held the rope tight. He still felt uneasy and a bit afraid. “Okay, I am ready!” he said.
The sled began to move. Jun slid down the hill. “Woo-hoo!” he yelled. But then the sled hit an uneven mound in the snow and began to spin. Unable to control the sled, Jun tumbled into the snow.
Roy watched all of this unfold. He quickly ran to Jun and dug in the snow to uncover him. Roy asked, “Are you hurt? You took quite a fall! The sled hitting the uneven part of the snow was unlucky.” Then, Roy dug out the sled and untangled the rope.
Jun unzipped his jacket and brushed snow off his coat. He realized that falling was not that scary. He got up, unfazed, and smiled. “I am fine,” he said with a chuckle. Then, he untangled the rope from the sled and, in an unafraid voice, said, “I want to go again!”
Jun rode the sled again. He felt brave, and unlike the first time, he did not fall. “I did it!” Jun called out.
“You did amazing!” Roy said with a big grin. As the sun set, Jun looked at the hill one last time. “I will always remember today,” he said.
