The Big Day
Jaime got up from bed quickly. The rain from last night had finally stopped. She had big aims for the day and had come up with a plan to help her mom. "I will help with all the chores," she exclaimed. She could not wait!
Jaime's mom made a detailed list. “Jaime, can you help bake the pie?” Mom asked. “Yes, I can!” Jaime said. She got the pie crust and put in the fruit mix. She set the pie on top of the stove. It was all set to bake.
Her dad came in next. “Jaime, will you help set the table?" he asked. “Yes, I will!” she said. Jaime set the plates, cups, and forks. She got a big red vase and put a fresh tulip in it. Then, she put a photo next to the vase.
“Jaime, can you help chop the squash?” asked her brother. “Yes, I will!” Jaime said. She cut the squash into small bits.
At last, the doorbell rang. “The guests are here!” Jaime exclaimed with a grin. The door swung wide and opened. Jaime could not wait to entertain people. The guests came in and hung their jackets. Music filled the home.
They all sat to eat. It was silent at the table while people waited for everyone to get seated. Finally, the feast began. There were rolls, a salad, a vegetable stew, and a pie. “This is the best feast!” expressed Jaime, as she did a small dance.
When the meal was done, Jaime helped clean the mess. Jaime never complained. “It is nice to help out,” she said. She put the trash in the container and mopped the floors.
Then, they all sat in the den to exchange tales and to play a game of bingo. Jaime was glad to relax and sat snug next to her mom. It was a day to love and to give thanks.
