The Birthday Cake
Tesh lived in a cozy home in the forest. One sunny morning, she went to preset the oven.
Today was special. It was her friend Randy's birthday, and Tesh was going to bake a cake. She had known Randy since preschool. Tesh could hardly wait and had to prepare for the big day.
First, Tesh remembered to replace her broken bowl. She found a shiny new bowl and began to mix the flour, eggs, and milk while she was waiting for the oven to preheat.
As she mixed the ingredients, something did not seem right. She reread and reviewed the recipe. She saw that sugar was removed from the list. "Oh no!" she said. "I need to redo the recipe."
Tesh rewrote the steps to include sugar this time. She felt relieved that she had caught her mistake. She then reread the recipe one more time before restarting the cake. This time, she chose to remove the sprinkles from the list.
Tesh refilled her bowl. "Maybe I will redesign this cake. I can replace the sprinkles with some fresh fruit," she thought, remembering that Randy liked berries.
Finally, after she remixed the ingredients, Tesh placed the cake in the preheated oven. While the cake baked, she rejoined her friends outside. They were playing near the pool.
"The cake is in the oven!" Tesh shouted. "We can't wait to try it!" Leo responded.
As the sun started to set, Tesh returned to the kitchen. The smell of cake filled the air. First, Tesh turned on the oven light, previewing the cake to make sure it was done. Then, she removed it from the oven and revamped the design by adding fresh strawberries and grapes. It smelled wonderful.
She let the cake cool down before she went to slice it. Her friends rejoined her and gathered around, their eyes wide. They were prepared to eat the cake.
Tesh handed out slices to everyone. The first bite was met with “Mmmm!” and “Yum!”
"This is amazing, Tesh!" Randy exclaimed, his mouth full of cake.
"This is the best cake ever! I love the fresh fruit," responded Irene, while giving a thumbs up.
Tesh beamed with pride. "I am so glad you all like it," she said. "Redoing the recipe and redesigning the cake was worth all of the effort."
As they enjoyed cake, the friends laughed and retold stories, reliving old memories. Tesh knew that this day would always be one to remember.
