Roonie the Rooster's Big Job
Roonie the rooster had a big job on the farm. Each morning, as the sun rose, he stood on top of the roof of the red barn and crowed.
His call woke up the farm. One cool morning, Roonie was about to crow. Then, he saw the moon still high in the sky.
It was a full moon, big and round. Close by, a bird let out a ''hoot!'' Roonie thought it was so cool to see the moon and the sun at the same time.
Today, Roonie had a plan before he did his afternoon call. He wanted to find food for all of his farm pals. He made a list: corn for the hen, oats for the horse, and a big, fat worm for himself.
Roonie swooped down from the barn and strutted to the corn bin. He filled his beak with golden corn and laid it by the hen's pen. Then, he scooted to the stable with a scoop of oats for the horse.
Last was the hunt for a worm. Roonie dug and dug in the soft dirt. Soon, he found a big worm. "Yum", Roonie thought, feeling proud.
After his morning chores, Roonie flew back to his spot on the barn. He fluffed his feathers. He felt good.
Before he began to roost, he let out a call for all to hear.
The hen and the horse awoke and thanked Roonie for the food and the wake up call. Roonie felt good to help his pals.
The sun was bright and the farm was calm. As the sun rose, Roonie shut his eyes and went to rest.
Roonie's job was done. His pals were fed and all was calm on the farm.
