The Sky Map
Sam sat on the carpet, looking at a map of the sky. ''I am going to spy on the stars,'' he told his dog, Tag.
Tag wagged his tail as if to say, ''I will go with you.''
''My plan is to fly a kite up to the stars,'' Sam said. He had a big kite, blue as the sky.
Sam and Tag went to a hill, the kite and map in hand. Sam let the kite fly up.
It went up, up into the sky. ''The stars are so far, yet we can spy them at night,'' Sam said to Tag.
As the kite went up, Sam wanted to line it up with the stars on his map.
He was not shy to try, even though it was a big task for a kid. By and by, the wind got strong.
The kite went up and up, pulling on the string. Tag held on, trying not to let it fly too far.
Then, a gust of wind made Sam cry out. The string slipped from his hand. "Oh no!"
The kite was flying up into the sky. Sam and Tag ran after it. They ran past a pond and a dim path.
The kite dipped and dived, but it did not fall. Then, the kite got stuck on a branch.
With a jump and a try, Tag got the kite! ''We did it, Tag!'' said Sam.
They went home, the kite and map in hand, under the vast sky. Sam would try again.
The stars were not so far when he had Tag by his side.
