Santiago's Donut Day
Early in the morning, Santiago the macaw woke up with a thought.
He felt chilly and thought, 'I ought to find breakfast.'
He flew from his perch and began his search for food.
His eyes were sharp, scanning the jungle below as he flew.
Santiago spotted a doughnut someone left on a picnic table.
He swooped down and grabbed it, although it was larger than his normal breakfast.
He thought, 'This will keep me full for the whole day.'
Satisfied, he brought it back to his perch to enjoy.
As Santiago ate, he noticed something shiny in a nearby tree.
He thought it was a piece of glass but it was a mirror, someone must have dropped.
He thought it was funny to see his reflection and he chuckled.
Feeling playful, Santiago pecked at the mirror, making it swing back and forth.
Santiago was thoughtful as he looked at his reflection.
He thought, 'I'm quite a handsome macaw, aren't I?'
Satisfied with his day, Santiago decided to take a nap.
He curled up on his branch, the jungle quiet around him.
Suddenly, Santiago was woken up by a loud noise.
It was a group of monkeys who thought it was fun to make loud noises.
Feeling grouchy, Santiago thought, 'I ought to find a quieter place'.
Santiago flew off in search of a quieter place to rest.
Santiago sought a quiet spot by a small pond.
He thought, 'This place is perfect for a nap.'
Santiago curled up once again and drifted off to sleep.
And so, Santiago's day ended with sweet dreams under the stars.
